Upon the invitation of Chinese Embassy in Eritrea and the Commission of Culture and Sports of Eritrea, China’s Gansu Art Troupe gave two artistic performances on February 17 and 18 at Cinema Roma in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea.
Ambassador Li Xiang extended a warm welcome to the Gansu Art Troupe, and gave sincere Spring Festival greetings to all the guests. He said Gansu is a splendid pearl in the treasure house of Chinese culture and a model of the convergence between Chinese and foreign civilizations since ancient times. Like China, Eritrea also has a unique and splendid civilization. Although China and Eritrea are separated by vast oceans, our civilizations have been intertwined and the hearts and minds of our people have been connected since ancient times. A millennium ago, amid sound of camel bells, the Silk Road passed through Gansu and connected Asia, Europe and Africa, promoted trade and cultural exchanges and wrote a brilliant chapter in the history of human civilizations exchanges. Today, under the guidance of the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by H.E. President Xi Jinping, and the spirit of the Belt and Road Initiative, artists from Gansu followed the footsteps of the ancient Silk Road and step once again on the fertile land of Eritrea. They have brought with them exquisite Chinese songs and dances shows as well as the most sincere friendship of Chinese people, to renew the millennium-old promise of cultural exchanges between China and Eritrea.
Ambassador Li stressed that "A single flower does not make the spring; while all flowers bloom, the garden is filled with spring." The civilization of China and Eritrea have been exchanging and learning from each other because of our uniqueness, and developing through mutual learning. He believed the performances of the Gansu Art Troupe will continue to deepen the traditional friendship between our two peoples and bring new vitality to the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between our two countries, thus promoting new development of China-Eritrea Strategic Partnership.
The Gansu Art Troupe gave marvellous traditional Chinese instrument, dances and acrobatics shows. They also played a famous Eritrean ballad.
After the performance, Ambassador Li received interviews from Erina and answered questions on China-Eritrea cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Themed videos introducing the Spring Festival and Gansu were played before the performance.
The performances were organized by the Commission of Culture and Sports of Eritrea and Chinese Embassy in Eritrea. During their stay in Eritrea, the art troupe was warmly received by the Commission of Culture and Sports of Eritrea.
