On March 5, Chinese Embassy in Eritrea held a reception celebrating the upcoming International Women’s Day. Female representatives from both China and Eritrea attended the event.
A themed video introducing “Spring Bud” Project was played during the event. The project is advocated by Professor Peng Liyuan and aims to support poor female students in China for education.
Ambassador Li extended his most sincere greetings and best wishes to all female friends, and said women are the creators of human society and an essential driving force of social development and progress. Ambassador Li introduced the achievements of Chinese Government in promoting the cause of women, and commended the key role of National Union of Eritrean Women in protecting Eritrean women’s rights and interests, and enhancing their social status.
Ambassador Li said every step in the advancement of women's cause contributes to the progress of human civilization. Over the past three decades, China has actively implemented the spirit of the Beijing Declaration, sharing its approaches to women's development with other countries and actively delivering on the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity. Ambassador Li stressed that the growth and deepening of China-Eritrea relations cannot happen without the participation and contributions of women from both countries. It is his sincere hope that women from both countries will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation, and embrace the beauty of diversity and unity, thus making new and greater contributions to the national development of China and Eritrea, our joint endeavour of achieving modernization, and the global advancement of women's cause.
President Tekea of NUEW also delivered a speech introducing the vision of NUEW and expressing the wish to deepen cooperation with the Chinese Embassy to promote further growth of Eritrea-China Strategic Partnership.
During the event, Chinese tea and Eritrea coffee ceremonies were organized, performances were put up, and women of the two countries together experienced paper cutting and dumpling making.
