On December 17, 2024, Ambassador Li Xiang presented his credential to Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki.

Ambassador Li first conveyed H.E. President Xi Jinping’s greetings to President Isaias and the best wishes from the Chinese government and its people. He said enjoying profound traditional friendship, China and Eritrea are good brothers having a heart-to-heart affinity, good partners for mutual benefit and win-win results, and good friends for safeguarding fairness and justice. President Xi and President Isaias had face to face exchange of views for two years in a row, together mapped out the blueprint for China-Eritrea relations. As new Ambassador of China to Eritrea, he will do his utmost to implement the consensus of the two Heads of State and the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, and to deepen China-Eritrea political mutual trust, promote practical cooperation and strengthen the friendship of our two peoples.

President Isaias welcomed Ambassador Li for assuming his duty, and said Eritrea attaches high importance to developing its relations with China, and would like to work with China to maintain high-level exchanges and conduct frequent communications and coordination.

The two sides also had in-depth exchange of views on international and regional issues.

Ambassador Li arrived in Eritrea on May 3, and presented the copy of his credential to Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman on May 7.
